New Layout

New Layout

This is a new project that will be an LMS themed country end to end layout. The layout will have a Terminous Station that will have one or two platforms and a bay platform, a goods shed with siding space, a small double or single road engine shed with features such as a small coaling dock, water tank and ash pit. The layout in general will be DCC which will be first for us as we have never tried this. We hope to go one step futher and have DCC sound to give a whole new experience. With us already having a lot of new locomotives and rolling stock on Ramsbottom this should be pretty much straight forward to change between the two providing we remember to remove the chips!

Beginning

We decided to plan an idea to build a new layout around two years ago not long after Roger Wilsons passing to sort of district us and give us a new project rather than just doing maintenance on Ramsbottom which can get a bit boring after awhile. Originally we started to building Bacup Shed due to the shed already being built by Alan Garside. We soon realised that this was made a step too far and that maybe we should keep it simple. So this project was abandoned.

One evening myself and Alex King came down to the club house and decided to dismantle the Bacup Shed layout. This included componet recover to areas such as track, points, point motors, wiring, buildings, turntable and any other usable parts. The biggest problem with the layout was that the baseboards were made from MDF and do not hold up well in the damp conditions of the club house.

The layout is currently located on the far rear wall and runs 3 quarters of the length of the building. This is here due to Ramsbottom taking up most of the space in the club house.

Dimensions

  • Section 1 -54inch x 36inch
  • Section 2 – 24inch x 36inch
  • Section 3 – 40inch x 36inch
  • Section 4 – 25inch x 36inch
  • Section 5 – 40inch by 24inch

Each section is made up of a frame work of soft wood which is generally 2inch x 3inch which has a cross frame with 1inch x 2ich. Only section 1 is slighlt different being made up of frame 1inch by 3inch soft wood due to being a later addition.
